A Guide to Mastering TikTok's Built-in Editing Tools
Published on November 1, 2025
TikTok's native editor is more powerful than you think. Let's explore its key features.
The 'Adjust clips' Screen
After you've recorded or uploaded your clips, tap 'Adjust clips'. This is your main editing timeline. Here you can:
- Trim: Drag the handles at the beginning or end of a clip to shorten it.
- Reorder: Press and hold a clip to drag it to a new position in the timeline.
- Split: Move the playhead to where you want to make a cut and hit the 'Split' button.
Text and Captions
TikTok's text tool is very advanced. You can change fonts, colors, add animations, and set the duration for how long each piece of text appears on screen. Use the 'Text-to-Speech' feature to have a voice read your text aloud, which is great for accessibility and engagement.
Effects and Filters
There are thousands of effects and filters. 'Effects' are interactive AR elements you apply while filming. 'Filters' are color grading presets you can apply after filming to change the mood and tone of your video. Experiment with both to find your signature style.
